These Prairie Skies | November

Each month I plan to share a little of a personal project I am doing in 2016.  One of the best things about living in the country on the Saskatchewan prairies is our view of these incredible skies!  Instead of only getting a shot on my iPhone I am making a conscious effort this year to capture the gorgeous, colourful, lively skies with my professional camera.  I plan to create a photo book with a collection of favorite images at the end of the year.  So at the end of each month or beginning of the next I will share a few favorite captures from that month.  Sharing here will also hold me accountable and help to keep me consistent throughout the year!

Another 30 days flew by and there were overcast days but when there was color in the sky it was like November cranked up the intensity.  Such vibrant colors!  It’s always a beautiful sight to take in the natural beauty.  Especially days when the only time the sun came out was at sunset displaying these colors and designs.  I have no way to properly calculate a number but I snapped away for quite a while as a ginormous flock of geese made it’s way south directly above our yard.

Vancouver | Fall Getaway

We had a wonderful getaway at the beginning of the month to the beautiful city of Vancouver.  We celebrated our 9th anniversary then enjoyed time with my younger sister and also my cousin + her family.  Of course there was rain but we did luck out with nearly 2 days of no rain and even a stunning sunrise one morning.  The first hotel we stayed at has complimentary bicycle rentals so even in the pouring rain the first day we cycled all around Stanley Park, English Bay, Granville Island and some of downtown.  The bonus was the bike paths were pretty much just ours!  So the next morning when it wasn’t raining I requested to bike again around Stanley Park when I could actually take photos on my camera.  Good thing we put on the miles because we scouted out some great restaurants, gluten free treats and scrumptious waffles for breakfast.  Eating is part of the fun of being away as we rarely eat out when we are at home.  Of course the restaurants right by the ocean were our favorite dining experiences!

A couple interesting, fun places we went were the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park where we really enjoyed time up in the treetops and then headed back downtown to even greater heights at the Vancouver Lookout.  It was the end of the day so we took in the 360 views late in the afternoon then stayed up to see the lights of downtown at dusk too.  With the rainy weather I didn’t have my camera sometimes but here’s some of what I captured in our time away to the westcoast.

Walkeden family | Tribune

Their time all together at home this fall was limited with having daughters that love to travel.  I always enjoy to see this wonderful family and visit with them!!  And of course chat about world travels too!  We were planning to wait until harvest finished which at the time was going along really well.  Then cool, rainy October weather hit and as combining was dragging out I hoped we didn’t have to hold to that as the nice days were less frequent.  With weather and busy schedules we were down to the last opportunity so I’m glad they braved the chilly fall weather.  And the last bit of combining was finished just the day before!  This was a special farmyard to use as it’s the old family farm.  I love the fall feel and their beautiful smiles even as the prairie wind blew!!  It really was a fun time and I loved capturing these memories.

For what felt like quite a rainy, overcast month there were some colourful skies in between those times.  Or sometimes peeking out only around sunset.  And some mornings, a beautiful sunrise and then the sun was hidden behind clouds for the day.  It pays to wake up early to enjoy these stunning sunrises!  Always noticing of the greatness of the living prairie skies and grateful for our incredible view!!
