There’s a favorite time of year in our backyard for me. When the peonies are blooming! There’s something about the pop of color of the pink peonies that brightens up our yard. It’s amazing how much these plants grow in a year from shoots coming out of the ground to the large bush they become as the blossoms start to form. I’m always excited to watch the progression! We have this beautiful pink variety and a white one with hints of pink.
For as hyped up as I get over my peonies, this year however was a letdown. It was a tough growing season!! Watering doesn’t seem to have the same effect as rain and it was so dry. There were about 5 nice blooms and within a day the strong winds nearly demolished them before I got to photograph them (besides on my phone). Last year’s peonies were abundant and lasted nicely. Even well enough to make a bouquet for my Mom. Most of these photos were taken on medium format film. Thanks to Canadian Film Lab for the scans!
